With a live version of Answer me (the original studio version having been recorded for a different record label), and the absence of two other hits, I know him so well (her number one hit duet with Elaine Paige) and Another suitcase in another hall (from Evita), this is not quite the best of Barbara Dickson but it is still full of high quality music.
Barbara began as a folk singer but established her reputation as a singer of easy listening pop music. Her popularity is not obvious from a reading of the UK singles charts - she only had six hits, most of them minor - but her albums always sold well.
Three of her UK hits are included here in their original form, these being January February, Caravan song and In the night. Also included is Tell me it's not true (from Blood Brothers, a West End musical that Barbara starred in).
Barbara sometimes wrote her own material but she was also a fine interpreter of other people's songs. This collection includes her covers of Long and winding road (Beatles), Stardust (the Hoagy Carmichael classic from the thirties), Crying game (Dave Berry), With a little help from my friends (Beatles, though best remembered via Joe Cocker's version), Will you love me tomorrow (Shirelles), As time goes by (another thirties classic) and Stop in the name of love (Diana Ross and the Supremes).
Among the other songs here, I particularly like I believe in you (written by Barbara, not to be confused with several other different songs sharing this title), Run like the wind and It's really you.
While this is not the definitive collection of Barbara's music, everything here is of a very high quality.

This is a very enjoyable collection of Barabara Dickson's most popular work - all the songs that you might remember from the 70s are here and sound as good today as they did then. As the previous reviewer says, some are recorded live, but the performances and recordings are so good that they don't diminish the songs in any way.

A great place to start if you want to put some barbara Dickson music in your CD collection!

For any Barbara Dickson fan this is a wonderful addition to your collection. A great singalong item for a car journey and when you reach the end of the CD you feel uplifted and ready to face the world.

A great Pick-me-up!

Several cds bear the title 'The Best of Barbara Dickson': this one starts with 'January, February' and was supplied by Direct Entertainment UK. Advertised as brand new, the case was not sealed in cellophane and the paper insert of the cover picture was crumpled. Then a couple of the songs sounded flat. All in all we concluded that this was not a brand new cd but a used one, so returned it for a full refund. Such a shame, as it ought to have been a super collection of music. We may try buying it again, but not from that seller.

The Best Of Barbara Dickson on Sony Records is a very good compilation CD Album by the talented Scottish female singer who should have had more chart hit singles than she did.A number of her single releases are included here like "January February",In the Night","Answer Me","Another Suitcase In Another Hall",and "It's Really You" Although a very good compilation album "Caravans" ,"I Know Him So Well" with Elaine Paige and an excellent single called "Keeping My Love For You" which I often heard on BBC Radio 2 (only on one of her compilations called "Songbook") is not included here

Bought for the other half who loves Barbara Dickson. I knew her from childhood but didn't realise when listening to it how many of the songs I recognised. A brilliant album. A very good item and good seller.

Barbara has a superb voice. She is one of the few that can sing. The artist's that came up in the 60s and 70s had to have a good voice. there was always amazing units to enhance Music and the singer but nothing like to day. Utter five separate words into a voice box go to breakfast and by lunch you've released a new Rap record. All the back up music can now be done by one man. see tubela bells rather listen to it. No a real voice can beat them all
