5.0 out of 5 stars High standard 60s compilation
Very good compilation which covers all the 60s (though main emphasis on the mid 60s) and UK and US acts from all areas of ballads to rockers and folk to soul. Sets like this make you realise what a truly varied juke box the 45 rpm singles charts were across the 60s. Original recordings and good sound transfers make this a great purchase whether you were there (and can...

1.0 out of 5 stars Where is the complete track listing?
This is a compilation of Sixties music, supposedly - but how are we supposed to know this? There is no point in advertising compilation albums unless you provide a full listing of album tracks and the artistes to confirm whether or not they are original recordings. With so many compilation albums often extensively overlapping in content, I suspect that few people would...

Very good compilation which covers all the 60s (though main emphasis on the mid 60s) and UK and US acts from all areas of ballads to rockers and folk to soul. Sets like this make you realise what a truly varied juke box the 45 rpm singles charts were across the 60s. Original recordings and good sound transfers make this a great purchase whether you were there (and can remember it as the old joke goes!) or are just interested to hear what it was like.

Dave Clark of DC5 fame oversaw this release together with a follow up Volume 2 set which is of comparable standard as well as a Tamla Motown compilation which is worth catching if you can find a second hand copy, given its coverage of that label's best 60s output for the UK market in a way that that label has itself singularly failed to do so to date.

If your not old enough to remember the 60's them buy this double CD. These two CDs along with the second volume of Ready Steady Go cover most of the best of the music of the 60s. From the husky voice (and black eyes)of Dusty Springfield with "You Don't Have to say You Love Me" to the dark glasses of Roy Orbinson with "Oh Pretty Woman" right through to The Animals with "House of the Rising Sun" this is a double CD that does cover all the music of the 60s.If your young then buy this double CD and listen to what your mum and dad spent their money on in the 60s and learn what real music is. If you happen to be in my age group then still buy the Cds, give the wife the bingo money, pour yourself a drink, sit back and turn the clock back.

This is a compilation of Sixties music, supposedly - but how are we supposed to know this? There is no point in advertising compilation albums unless you provide a full listing of album tracks and the artistes to confirm whether or not they are original recordings. With so many compilation albums often extensively overlapping in content, I suspect that few people would purchase such an album simply on the strength of its title and/or a reference to the Sixties. Provision of a full track listing ought to be a compulsory requirement for advertising albums on Amazon. After all, it is not unknown for the same album title from the same artiste to be issued with different mixes of tracks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential, 6 July 2001

Terrific. A dual platter of top-notch, though desperately over-familiar, sixties tracks. If you have never visited the sixties music scene, let this be your portal to it.
