5.0 out of 5 stars It only takes a split second lapse in attention to miss brilliance, 9 Aug 2010
This review is from: Vampyre Erotica (Audio CD)
Inkubus Sukkubus have been making music for 21 years. And they are British. I can only assume that my love affair with Souxsie and the Banshees throughout the eighties and nineties must be the reason that I had never heard of them and only discovered them by chance a few months ago. Their music is Divine. Although it could be compared to other gothic, punk or alternative genres of music it is completely fresh and original. For me, what makes it stand out is it's originality. I bought this album for Heart of Lilith, but then all the songs gradually grew on me until I cannot choose a favourite. The cover of Paint it Black by the Stones is brilliant and works so well with Candia's voice. The ballad Sweet Morpheus is wonderfull. Metallica always describe their work as a crafted composition. Each note played and how it interweaves with every other note played from each instrument and the vocal layering and lyrical content is painstakingly constructed. As a metallica fan, I would put Inkubus Sukkubus on a par with Metallica as masters of their craft.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite a strong offering from the Inkies..., 18 Sep 2013

This album may not be on a par with the likes of "Wytches" or "Belladonna and Aconite", but in my opinion it's still a very worthwhile album to have of theirs, even if you're not planning on getting /every/ Inkubus Sukkubus album. "Heart of Lilith" is a good opener, which you will find yourself humming for the rest of the day. Then you're dashing through the countryside at lightning speed in "Woman to Hare", one of my personal favourite tracks of theirs. The album also contains some other jewels, for instance their excellent cover of the Rolling Stones' "Paint it Black", which not only does the original justice, but I think adds more to the song. There is also the title track, which again you may find yourself humming hours later. The album also thankfully isn't monotonous when listened to, with several themes and atmospheres, with perhaps the greatest contrast provided in the form of the dreamy trance-like "Danse Vampyr". All in all a good, interesting album, with many tracks still often making it into their live sets.
