5.0 out of 5 stars Costello gets personal, 2 Dec 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Blood & Chocolate (Audio CD)
Released simultaneously with the completely different King of America, Blood and Chocolate is one of the least accessible but most rewarding albums the man has recorded. Listeners will remember the intensely personal "I want you", a deceptively simple and hard hitting jealous mantra. In the same vein,"I hope you're happy now" is sung with the raucous yearning of late 80s Costello that runs through the album. Other gems are "Home is anywhere...", (proving that there is some respite for the guy!) and "Battered Old Bird", such an evocative song that the listener can almost visualise the seedy apartment and the sordid old man that Costello sings about. This album repays being listened to again and again, and with it, Elvis Costello reinforces his position at the top of the UK singer-sogwriter tree.
