This review is from: Dreamweaver (Audio CD)
Sabbat is a band that, that I believe, doesn't get enough credit for making two of the best Euro-thrash metal records ever made (this and "History Of A Time To Come"). They were one of the first metal bands to incorperate paganism, blackmagic and witchcraft into their records. (And not cheesy I-don't-really-know-what-I'm-talking-about-but-it-sounds-cool paganism and blackmagic, like Venom {no offense, I dig those guys}.) The whole record feels as if 2,000 years ago it was sacrificed, thrown into a bog, and only recently pulled out of a swamp somewhere in Europe. Dreamweaver is based a on book called "The Way of The Wyrd" and details the conversion of pagan northern Europe by Christian missionaries. It is probably one of the smartest thrash records ever made. And it rocks, too. Andy Sneap's guitar work is at it's best. Martin Walkyier's vocals are a streaming assault of incoherent growls as he tells this story of old religion vs. new religion. As I said before, this band and this record do not get the credit they deserve. You need this record.
