Another reviewer mentioned the similarity of parts of 777 with parts of Steve Hillage's 'Rainbow Dome Music' album. I do not know for sure if any of that album was lifted into 777, but it is entirely possible as Steve Hillage is the founder member and core writer/producer in System 7., therefore he would only be sampling his own music (if you see what i mean?). I always saw System 7 as a logical progression, with programmed Electronica, the obvious modern genre for Steve's approach. His 70s albums (Motivation Radio and Green etc.), were essentially 'rock' based, and featured a proper band (drums bass etc.), but the trippy use of synths to create wonderfull rolling soundscapes and filtered resonant cascading delay riffs, and his uniqe use of delay guitar provided the sonic building blocks for countless modern Dance/Electronica outfits, not to mention Ozric Tentacles, who owe practically their whole sound to Steve. 777 is chilled and paced at the same time, which is a System 7 trademark, and features some inspired programming, although compositionally it seems a little vague (but then it is chillout i guess so maybe thats ok). I just wonder when Hillage will come full circle and be bold enough to feature his awesome guitar playing and beautiful lyric writing more prominently on a project again. Perhaps its a pipe dream, and Steve is far happier with things the way they are. He is however one of the most inspired guitarists i have ever heard, and it is a crime that his use of guitar within System 7's framework, -though extensive-is perhaps too subdued and subtle for this listener. A cool chillout album though and well worth a pop!
In the great man's own words- "Lets go there!!!"

I love this album. Being of a 'certain age', although I have eclectic tastes, this would not be the usual style of music I gravitate towards. But, I was a fan of Steve Hillage and Miquette Giraudy back in the days of Gong, and Steve Hillage's solo albums, so I had a listen to the samples of this, loved what I heard, bought it, and loved the album, along with System 7's 'Phoenix' album.

This is such a cool CD, up beat and chilled out at the same time, a must for any and all techno heads out there. any oldies may remember Steve Hillage and his 'Rainbow Dome music' this was recorded especially for punters attending the very first Mind, Body and spirit festival in London (I think back in '82). anway, if you compare the two albums you will notice many similarites, especially on the last two tracks of 777, then listen to track 2 of rainbow Dome and you'll see what I mean. I wonder if they sampled any from Steves album??? Samples aside, this really is one of the best techno type albums that I've heard for eons, long may they reign.
