4.0 out of 5 stars not essential but still very good, 19 May 2000
This review is from: Out Spaced (Audio CD)
if you like the furrys regular studio albums you should definitely own this b-sides and rarities collection. Unlike other compilations of this type this one has been put together carefully to sound like a proper album and the quality level is uniformly high throughout. Best known track is the non-album single "the man don't give a f**k" while the rest is made up of tracks from their early welsh-language eps and b-sides.
Highlights are the elvis-meets-glam stomp of "Guacomole", the early-blur style pop of "Pam-V", and the melancholic closers "Carry the Can" and "Blerwytirhwng" (which like "Mountain People" off 'Radiator' ends in a storm of fierce techno loops)

4.0 out of 5 stars B-sides and rarities from the SUPER Furries, 20 Nov. 2001

If you have never listened at great length to the Super Furry Animals, then you will generally find their music just a bit whacky. This album is unlikely to change your mind, however, for a fan it is interesting to see some more raw and older songs produced by the Welsh band.
Despite not making any of their studio albums, there is no doubt that SFA are responcible for this.
The songs on the album are taken from EP's recorded prior to Fuzzy Logic, B-sides and a collaboration with Howard Marks (The man don't give a ....).
As with all their songs, a good melody is more important than taking lyrics seriousley. On Guacomole, you discover that the Mexican side order is a solution for insomnia and on Arfnofio/Glo in the Dark you find out that Billy stinks around and then kisses and tells.
Some of the songs are in Welsh, but if you have listened to Mwng, you will know that this is no barrier to enjoyment of the music.
A bit rough about the edges, but a must for any fan of the Super Furry Animals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Selected B-Sides and Rarities 94-98, 14 Nov. 2000

This review is from: Out Spaced: Selected B-Sides & Rarities 94-98 (Audio CD)
For a b-sides and rarities compilation this fits together suprisingly well, and is coherent enough to pass for an full album. Whilst TMDGAF alone is worth the money, the other tracks map the evolution of SFA from a techno band (shown on Guerrilla- Wherever I lay my phone and Some things come from nothing) to their current electism. Essential for any SFA fan, and recommended to any curious, free-thinking music fan

Although a B-Sides collection, Out Spaced contains several indispensable SFA tracks: 'Don't Be a Fool Billy' 'Guacamole' 'Dim Bendith' and 'Pass the Time'. Well worth spending your pocket money on.

Overall an interesting and entertaining stroll down the back alleys of DAD's oeuvre. Patchy in places but definitely worth a listen
