I can't believe it has taken me so long to get hold of this. I got the studio version when it came out in 1971, and featured the LSO, Albert Lee instead of Ritchie, and Tony Ashton / Yvonne Elliman in place of Gillan. It was also slightly modified in that it had a piano and seperate Organ movement instead of organ and then band finale. It also had lyrics by Jon Lord!! (Ian G quite clearly never got around to writing them for this original, unless you can call La La La lyrics :-)). However this has got to be truly magical for all real Purple fans, particularly those who knew, or grew to love, the first 'Mark 2' times of the early seventies. We have often been told that Ritchie was not into this stuff and was at odds with Jon about 'Gemini' and 'Concerto', but the man plays absolutely beautifully. The whole thing sounds slightly under rehearsed in places, more so from the orchestra than the band. Jon Lord also sounds a bit nervous in his playing on a couple of occassions, which is surprising, but just adds to the real genuine live feel of the whole thing. I can't mark it down for that. I does show what accomplished musicians they all were. I can't say enough about how delighted I am with this purchase. Brilliant!
