4.0 out of 5 stars Almost infinite beats!, 3 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Origin Of The Species I (Audio CD)
For newer fans of Psychic TV, or older ones looking to fill gaps in their collection, the Origin of the Species boxed sets are a boon. There are scheduled to be three two-CD sets,of which two have so far been released. The material on this set is mostly taken from the seminal PTV acid house albums 'Towards Thee Infinite Beat' and 'Beyond Thee Infinite Beat', though almost half of the tracks are previously unreleased, remixes or live versions. Highlights include the lengthy and Dionysian 'Bliss', featuring Bachir Attar of the Master Musicians of Joujouka, 'Infinite Beat' and the single 'I.C. Water', which is about the sad death of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, a close friend of Gen's . A long booklet with sleevenotes from Genesis P-Orridge and saucy cover art round out this excellent package.

4.0 out of 5 stars Maybe not for the songs, but for the words, 21 Feb 2001
This review is from: Origin Of The Species I (Audio CD)
This is the first in a series of 3 sets dealing with Psychic TVs Infinite Beat period. Listening to this period of PTV is a MUST for anyone interested in the history of dance and "rave" music. The set contains a fair portion of the two original albums (Towards Thee Infinite Beat & Beyond Thee Infinite Beat) and a few new mixes/live tunes. All in all it's a nice package giving the new listener a range of PTVs work around that time with a couple of gems for those who already have the original albums. But that is it... only a couple. Disappointing considering how easily available TTIB & BTIB are - you'd have thought there would be more to entice the existing fans. The booklet goes a long way to make up for this however - an introduction by Francis Pinkieknicker and explanations of each of the songs by GPO himself. It this insight into the thinking behind the music which really made the package for me. So, I'd say if you're actually interested in PTV, Genesis and what they have to say then get it and the originals <g>. Otherwise just go buy Beyond & Toward Thee Infinite Beat.
