This is a compilation for the discerning connoisseur but perhaps not an album I'd recommend for somebody who knows nothing about the band and is looking for a taste of Grand Funk.To begin at the end, this album contains three songs that were recorded especially for this compilation and exist nowhere else. They are probably among the greatest songs written by Mark Farner and it occurs to me that had the band six or seven more songs like this at the time they could have put out an excellent album as good as anything they ever did before.First up is Pay Attention To Me,an out and out rocker which opens with a blusey harmonica and then Marks wailing guitar kicks in to produce one of the heaviest sounds ever laid down by the band. Next is All I Do, a pleasant little song firmly in the Mark Farner mode with prominent lead guitar and then perhaps the stand out track In The Long Run a ballad type song which builds to the same intensity as I'm Your Captain and Loneliness and could well be the bands epitaph. Preceding these three songs is a live in Japan workout of We Gotta Get Out of This Place an old Animals number which shows that the Funk has lost nothing of their vitality over the years.
Several of the songs on this compilation are advertised as being previously unreleased and indeed they were at the time of this albums release though they have all since appeared as bonus tracks on various Grand Funk albums in the remastered series.
I'm not going to try to review all this album. If you're familiar with Grand Funk then the album speaks for itself. Sure it misses some classics like The Railroad and Talk To The People but rubbish and a waste of money it is not.
It should be noted that this album has now been deleted from The Capitol Label catalogue and so will became rarer and more expensive over time.

this is a fantastic collection to someone who ,has afew albums and wants more. I have all of their records. I will not get this only ,because the studio out takes and live cuts are all on the remastered cds as extras , A five star compilation!! ,a friend recently got hold of disc 3,as an advanced cd sampler and there are four tracks previously un released. great stuff indeed.

Buy the Capitol Collectors Series for a better Grand Funk Railroad compilation CD collection instead. Because it's the only one available in canada and united states of america everywhere. That's your best choice believe me a total waste of investment, time & money!
