Octons were a firm favourite with my 40+ year old twins-----now my 5 yr old grandson LOVES them. The colours are better than they used to be and the octons stimulate the imagination and problem solving skills----I would rate them as a "MUST" if you are looking for educational/ construction toys. My only criticism is the unclear, black and white photocopy-style instructions-------for really young ones coloured diagrams/ideas would be far better.

i bought these for my son after he had been playing with them in our local hospital.although they are basically for smaller children my son enjoyed constructing flying machines, mythical creatures etc they are easy to put together and he has hours of fun.for any child who enjoys building and using their imagination these are a great starting block and an alternative to lego.knex etc.

My son (5) loves this toy - he is forever building things from his imagination and then making a story up from it. He loved it so much I had to buys a second box of Octons to keep up with what he wanted to build!!! Only negative point I can think of about it is he is a rough and tumble little boy and has broken off a couple of the sides when playing with it, but fortunately this hasn't stopped the pieces from still being used.

Bought these for my one year old and ended up getting two more - one for my seven year old and one for my 5 year old. Great for them as they love constructing things and then using their imagination to play with them and great for my one year old as they're nicely tactile and offer numerous ways to play - stacking, flipping, learning colours, making exciting shapes etc etc - all good and we like these very much - they don't take up much room either and are a perfectly reasonable price considering the long shelf life!

Bought this for both my 3 yr old grandaugher and 2 yr old grandson. There is some strength needed to push the pieces home which my grandaughter has mastered, bit more difficult for my grandson who has quite some strength but can't quite manage it. However, he loves the colours and even just putting the octons in and out of the box so children find their own way of playing if you give them the tools.

The original transparent Galt Octons were a great memory from the late 70s, beautiful to look at as well as fun to play with. The only version you can currently buy seems a little cheaper made and the colours are lurid, but they are reasonably priced and an interesting construction toy for toddlers and young children. We made a lampshade with a couple of boxes of these Octons too!

I bought lots of Galt toys when my own children were small as they rarely disappoint. The quality is consistently good, First Octons included. The disks are sturdy and bright and, I would imagine, will last for a very long time. A further set would enable bigger structures to be made and I will probably buy another box if the Octons prove popular. The skill of slipping the disks into one another is a little different from other building blocks. Our 2 and a half year old granddaughter still finds it tricky but she loves us to build for her and is keen to try for herself. Also the disks are fun for lining up, counting and colour sorting!

This is an imagination based construction toy. The things that can be built with this are so varied that the child really gets their imagination involved. The shapes are very brightly coloured and this attracts their attention and keeps it. My children have consistently gone back to this toy over the last 4 years, so it was well worth buying. In that time I have seen houses, spaceships, and countless other things made of these. This is a much recommended purchase which will last for a long time.
