5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the first one!, 4 Feb 2004
This review is from: Medicine Woman, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
Origionally when i first heard this i didn't like it. i thought not another load of New Age mush. My Mum was always listening to it. And slwly it grew on me. And now i love it!! It's great for meditation, it's uplifting and also good back ground music!! it's certainly up there alongside the likes of Enigma and Deep Forest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting and motivational, 12 Mar 2012
This review is from: Medicine Woman, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
I bought this CD as it was recommended by a friend, never having heard any of Medwyn Goodall's work before. It was livelier than I expected, and was quite uplifting and motivational. It would be good to listen to in the mornings just to get your day off to a good start.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and intimate performance, 25 Oct 2011
This review is from: Medicine Woman, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
"Medicine Woman II: The Gift" was first released on a CD by the label New World Music in 1998. It was re-released on a CD in 2003. It is also available as an MP3 download. There are ten instrumental tracks on this album, and the total running time is about 56 minutes.

The artist Medwyn Goodall (who is mostly associated with New Age music) was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1961. Today he lives in Cornwall in the south west of England. He is a prolific composer and musician: to date he has recorded more than 75 albums.

Each album has a theme, in this case the power of the feminine element (the medicine woman). This album is the second in a series which so far comprises four volumes. Number one is Medicine Woman (first released 1992, re-released 2003). Number three is Medicine Woman, Vol. 3: The Rising (released 2005). Number four is Medicine Woman IV (released 2009).

Goodall plays several musical instruments: the guitar, the flute, the pan-pipe, keyboads, etc. With his acoustic guitar he can create a Spanish flavour; with his pan-pipe a Latin American flavour; and with his keyboards he can combine these flavours. Percussion plays an important role on this album.

All music on this album is composed, arranged, performed, produced, mixed and mastered by him at the Riverwood Studio. Here are the titles of the ten tracks:

# 1. Celebration
# 2. Invocation - part 2

# 3. Jungle Heart
# 4. Orchid Potion

# 5. The Gift - long version
# 6. Talking to the Sun

# 7. Sacred Ground
# 8. After the Rains

# 9. Emerald - Mayan Relic
# 10. The Gift - short version

The CD comes with sleeve notes which you can take out and fold out. Here you will find some information about the many different instruments used on this album. On the back of the jewel case there is a message from New World Music:

"Medwyn Goodall's Medicine Woman II revisits the inspiration behind Medwyn's original and highly acclaimed Medicine Woman. The journey continues with a new album that echoes a land where the storms have passed with the gift of new life. Through Medwyn's music the Goddess shares her powers with us, evoking the Emerald's power and restoring the Earth to purity. Medwyn provides us with a beautiful and intimate performance on Spanish Guitar, Bamboo Flute, Mandolin, authentic South American drums and a host of other instruments. Recorded in Medwyn's own studio, Medicine Woman II takes Medwyn's music to new heights."

These are grand words, but we can understand that the record company wants to use grand words to praise the work of an artist who is on their label. To some extent I can agree with these words. With this album Medwyn Goodall does indeed provide us with "a beautiful and intimate performance."

In my opinion, all tracks (except one) deserve five stars. Track # 3 deserves only three stars. On the other hand, track # 1 is so special that it deserves more than five stars, if this is possible. This album is in the samme class as Medicine Woman (released 1992) and Kingdom of the Sun God (released 1993). I think it must be one of the best albums ever recorded by Medwyn Goodall.

5.0 out of 5 stars Medwyn does it again!, 30 Jun 2010

This review is from: Medicine Woman, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
If I could sum up this recording in just one word it would be "Wow." The first volume of Medicine woman was terrific but this one blows it right out of the water. It is a lot more lively and upbeat than the first one and from the first track "Celebration" the album is off to a great start with its hint of Latin American flavor its a great way to start off the day. Overall this album is a classic recording which is what we have come to expect from this wonderfully talented composer an album that I guarantee will uplift you and re-energize your very being. As usual this album see's Medwyn playing over a dozen instruments but he does so to haunting and marvellous effect. Inspiring, uplifting, wonderful, haunting, amazing, Need I say anymore?

Everthing is in the title, however this one is a bit more "punchy". Not expensive, really worth it.
