5.0 out of 5 stars Must own
This is an absolute must for all of you out there who like your rock "old school" style. The first album from Blackmore post Purple, recorded with a little known bunch of Californians who went under the name of Elf, this album set the pattern for the classic Rainbow sound.
With a lovely British R&B feel to it, Blacmore's fretwork is among the best he has ever...

3.0 out of 5 stars Album superb - just not what I expected
Album superb and what I knew it would be like. BUT!!! I was expecting it on Purple vinyl. Others in reviews got it this way.
Problem is retailer failed to specify that it was not and reviews from other purchasers said how wonderful to be on coloured vinyl.
Just a bit of a swizz!!!!! Feeel just a little cheated!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Life after Deep Purple, 9 Dec 2007
By
This review is from: Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (Audio CD)
What would become of the members of Deep Purple after the break-up. For Ritchie Blackmore there was Rainbow. For those who may be aware of albums such as "Bent out of Shape" this is not the same band or sound. IN their latter years Rainbow became synonymous with pop/rock of quite a poor standard (my opinion).
This album was their first and quite literally a masterpiece. If you like your metal with strong vocals (Ronnie James Dio), excellent guitar work (Blackmore) but watered down a bit with blues and good catchy melodies then buy this album.
Not really for fans of Korn but if you like Creed, Audioslave then this should be right up your street.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great album, but one song is damaged, 2 Feb 2014

It's a great album, but if you're buying this from Amazon you might want to consider getting the CD, not the download. There's an error (a blip/glitch in the sound) on the track "Temple of the King", which I did tell Amazon about, and they acknowledged I was right but they haven't fixed it. I think it's a bit dishonest to knowingly sell a corrupt mp3 file.

Have never been a fan of Dio, but in my old age his vocals are really growing on me. Is easy to forget how many good songs Rainbow brought out.

The first album after Blackmore left Deep Purple and with one of the finest rock/metal vocalists of all time.

As can be expected it is a great album with some good tracks on it - ok it's not Rising but it's still darned good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Catch the Rainbow...., 9 Jun 2010

What do you get when a superstar guitar player joins forces with a majestic vocalist with a penchant for dungeons, dragons and all things medieval? Blackmores Rainbow! thats what.

This is disc is always overlooked when discussing Ronnie and Ritchies greatest moments and its a shame as it contains as many classics as 'Rising' and 'Long Live Rock N Roll'

Opening with the riff driven 'Man On The Silver Mountain' you immediately realise that Blackmores on form, fantastic solo, superb vocals from Dio and ably supported by the band ELF (sans guitarist of course) a sure fire winner to start with, a couple of lesser known tracks follow the best being 'Black Sheep of the Family' which pretty much can be seen as a template for many a latter day DIO track, before the albums ist highlight 'Catch The Rainbow',simply superb bluesy track with lyrics of bygone days of old,a mesmeric moment.Side 2 of the original album opened with 'Snake Charmer' another interesting workout before 'Temple Of The King' , yet another fantastic piece of music,,superb guitar playing, shimmering vocals, this track never ceases to bring a smile. The album closes out with the throwaway 'If You Dont Like Rock n Roll',showing Blackmore could still turn out Purple style rock when required while 16th Century Greensleeves and the stunning instrumental 'Still Im Sad' were evidence that Rainbow were already leaving Purple behind.A fantastic album in every sense.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rainbow at their best, 18 May 2010

Rainbow's first album remained one of their best along with Rainbow rising and Down to Earth. Such classics as "Man on the Silver Mountain" "Catch the Rainbow" and "Temple of the King" were never rivalled - the wonderful mixture of heavy rock and folk elements (as in Temple of the King).

The first outing from the brilliant Rainbow. A far cry from the previous Deep Purple releases, with this album Ritchie Blackmore is very much at the helm, serving up a mix of moods and musical textures, from the hard rocking Black Sheep, to the more laid back tones of Catch The Rainbow. One of the albums highlights has to be Sixteenth Century Greensleves, a hint of what was to come much later with Blackmores Night. Featuring the vocal talents of Ronnie James Dio, this is a classic album in every sense of the word. Sounds much better now without the scratches!

I can't believe that this was first released way back in 1975. Still sounds fresh and inspiring.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore's solo project, 26 Aug 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow (Audio CD)
It was an experiment in 1975, but success was overwhelming and so was followed up by "Rainbow Rising", by "Rainbow On Stage" (both recommended) and several other albums. Still very playable, and that is the mark of excellence.
