This is a U.K. 3-track single from Britney's debut studio album titled, ...BABY ONE MORE TIME. It is a dance-pop song. Just turning 16 years old, as a young teen with barely much experience in the music business Britney gets together with Swedish producer Max Martin for this single, manager Johnny Wright [Britney's co-manager] among others for the promotional appearances, and recording with Eric Foster to shape her voice. Britney showcased the song to executives in BMG and Jive and they were instantly blown away. The vocal sound was to be a blend of Euro-pop and Madonna, according to sources. Max Martin had originally wrote the song for TLC but they rejected it. The meaning of the song was said to infer a longing for the return of a past lover or ex-boyfriend. This song reached #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was quite an accomplishment for a music artist just starting. It reached #1 on the UK Singles Chart, and broke the barrier as it reached Platinum Certification by the RIAA. It sold more than 250,000 in the UK in just 3 days and in 1 week 460,000 breaking the record for any female act ever. It became the 25th best-selling single of all time in the UK leading to double Platinum in March of 1999 for The British Phonographic Industry.
Along with Max Martin, Denniz PoP also worked in this song but later passed away in August of 1998 but thus left his imprint and memory as Britney dedicated sleeve notes on her studio album that stated, "Your memory lives on in the beautiful music you wrote for me. Thank you." [The Unauthorized Biography Sean Smith]. Aside Max Martin and Dennniz PoP, Rami Yacoub was also part of the production.
On Track 1 is the Original Version of "...Baby One More Time". The multiple hooks like "Oh Baby, Baby" became a trademark, and the catchy pop hook "Hit me baby one more time" was an instant grabber. The song went to #1 across the globe, received numerous certifications and topped as the best selling single of all time. "...Baby One More Time" won a Teen Choice Award for Single of the Year and an MTV Europe Music Award for Best Song Billboard, according to Prometheus Global Media. It was also Britney's first Grammy nomination for Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. According to the Official Charts Company The Nation's Favorite Number 1 Single of all-time, "...Baby One More Time" was listed as the sixth favorite song by the United Kingdom.
On Track 2, "Sharp Platinum Vocal Remix" [8:11] there are added enhancements ranging from more echoing trance-like vocals that repeat, "Hit me baby one more time" along thumps, bangs, drums, and much vocals. Not a total mash up but rather a club pop sensational classic. The bangs are intense, the thumps bursting, and the effects exaggerated for sure! It is a totally different listening experience and the best track on this single, from my club dance tastes.
Track 3, "Davidson Ospina Club Mix" [5:40] has a more similar sound to the original with less electronic processed vocals, fast tempos, and energetic fast forward hyper beats surely infectious and catchy. While the album for Japan includes the "Davidson Ospina Radio Mix at 3:26 as a bonus track, this one is some 2+ minutes lengthier and much more club friendly. While the second track remix titled, "Sharp Platinum Vocal Remix" incorporates more variations, elevations, and tech-no electro effects, this one maintains a more classic sound to the original, more speed, and sound enthusiasm to elevate even the most somber or dejected.
The CD-Single is housed in a slim-line jewel case and includes the catalog number 0521692, UPC 5013705216923 with the product information found in this page which is correct. This song became one of Britney's classics as she still plays it to this day in tours like "The Circus Starring Britney Spears", "Dream Within A Dream Tour, and in jazzy R&B style in "The Onyx Hotel Tour", to name a few.
When this single first debuted in the United Kingdom it racked up approximately 1,500,000 in sales. Britney became the youngest female to sell 1 million copies of a single in the United Kingdom. Obviously, Larry Rudolph [Britney's manager] had a keen eye at spotting a gem like Britney! Along with his instincts, and action much would have to be attributed to his judgment and decisions as playing a role and in contributing to this singles splash.
The remix and mix found here are definite club bangers! Years may pass, songs may fade, but this song and single lives on as a timeless classic, signature song, and Britney trademark for decades and decades!
*This single was also released with a part 2 in the UK that has the radio version song [3:30] backed by the instrumental [3:30] and the song "Autumn Goodbye [3:41]". The 2-track French CD Single has the radio version and "Autumn Goodbye". And the Box-set has the card sleeve with the radio version and "Autumn Goodbye".
