5.0 out of 5 stars 68 minutes of the guitar-god back in action, 23 April 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mourning Widows (Audio CD)
Fresh and funky, Nuno with a band behind him reminds us just how long he's been away with his unique style of hard but not thrashy rock.
For people who have played "Schizophonic" to death(and he got there before Gerry Halliwell with that title) this is another album which has the technical excellence, musical variety, exuberent energy and sheer guitar-rock greatness to have you playing it time after time after time after time....

5.0 out of 5 stars Nuno Rocks, 15 Mar. 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mourning Widows (Audio CD)
This album is full on hard n' funky stuff. Nuno is improving all the time, especially now he is back with a regular band. What it may lack in soulful slower songs of his previous work it makes up for in a new direction. There is some major rocking going on. Check out "Love is a Cigarette" and "The Air That U Breath". But best of all, the drum opening of "I wanna be your friend"

Nuno never stop to surprise me. Nuno is at his aggressive best but the song are always very melodic like "the Temp" or "Love is a cigarette"."Paint the town red" is one of the best song i've ever heard and the two extra tracks are also in my permanent rotation... Buy it now

Nuno Bettencourts band, Mourning Widows are not like Extreme. So if you are going to buy this expecting the usuall guitar pyrotechnics then you will be disappointed. This band is more Grungy and alot darker than Extreme. The songs on it are fantastic, especially track 3. Nuno showed that unlike other guitar virtuosos such as Joe Satriani and Steve Via, he can do so much more and explore other sounds too. This is why he is probably the greatest living musician today. And if you think this is an exaggeration then i suggest you listen to his work on Extremes III Sides album where he wrote and composed a 70 piece orchestra at Londons Abbey Road Studios. The man is a musical genius and my respect for him is boundless.

All in all, its a great album so i give it 5 stars

Nuno really is a guitarists guitarist.
Effortless playing makes the rest of us put our guitar down and bow to a true master.
