For most of my life (nearly 50 years now) I have been a lover of classical music & especially when played on the guitar. Brought up with names such as Segovia, Bream & Williams, I am no stranger to good guitar music, played well. However the guitar has been in the past, rather a poor relation to when it comes to music that suits it perfectly. Yes, you can hear pieces of music from any number of composers which sound wonderful when set to guitar but for me & for the Spanish guitar, there is no other composer that captures the beauty & range this instrument better than Joaquin Rodrigo.
Have you ever wondered, when you listen to a piece of classical music from a composer that is no longer with us, did they really mean it to sound like that or is this just another interpretation? Within this CD you will probably find one of the most definitive performances of Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez you will ever hear. For Pepe Romero took the trouble to seek guidance on how this piece of music should be played from the man himself, Rodrigo. I have always loved this piece, so I was delighted when I saw a UK TV Channel 4 documentary that showed Pepe, Sir Neville and of course Joaquin's preparations to perform & record it.
What about the rest of the album? The orchestra marvellous! and for me the Harp music was an unexpected bonus, if you have perhaps ignored the harp up to now, this is your chance to discover of rediscover it.
The other guitar pieces? How long have you got? Well lets just say, if you are amateur player of the guitar, (as I am), sit back, close your eyes, listen & wonder!!!. How do the Romero's play the guitar as good as this and why! oh why! can't I???
You won't easily find this album in your high street (but this was no problem for Amazon), so take my advice buy it now, you will not be disappointed.

This is some of the most lovely music I've ever listened to. The melodies are wonderful and the recording is brilliant.

It has moments of great depth and seriousness and others of great lightness and fun, theres much drama and entertainment value as well as inspiration.

The harp pieces are just so much pleasure to listen to, I'm a great lover of the harp and after listening to this Cd I appreciate it in a new way which is quite something.

Some of these pieces are so charming and memorable they really stimulate the imagination.

I'm by no means an expert in classical music so I wont go out of my depth but I just wanted to add another recommendation for this album. Of course its probably not perfect but I don't have a bad word to say about it and I'm sure as time goes on it will grow on me even more, as great music does.

Without doubt this is the definitive recording of Rodrigo's masterpieces. Even compared to another fine recording I have of Pepe Romero with Academy of St Martins in the Fields and Sir Neville Mariner conducting this recording stands out. Simply breathtaking.

The Romeros and Sir Neville make a great team. Besides, there is much more to Rodrigo than the famous Concierto d'Aranjuez (quoted as "orange juice" in the film Brassed Off :-))). Guess I've had a bit too much of it, so currently my favourite is the beautiful Concierto Andaluz. I wonder why there are just so few recordings available, if you like Rodrigo it's a must!

You don't have to be a connoisseur of the classics to appreciate the blood, sweat & tears and years of practice that goes into performing such a work of perfection. I've bought this set twice now as I had worn the other out.

I also recommend acquiring EUROPA KONZERT 2011 blu-ray to get a visual feast of a well known flamenco guitarist demonstrating his admired and desired skill with guitar. The orchestration and orchestra are fabulous too.

Just wonderful! Loved every minute of it. It's not often your hear classical guitar unless you make a point of going looking for it and the harp pieces were such a wonderful bonus.
