Another sampler of music from Jerry Lee largely focussing on the more rock'n'roll oriented output from his long years on Mercury and its subsidiaries. There is another set comprising 40 songs over two CD's entitled, "The Many Sides of Jerry Lee Lewis", which has a wider selection of Jerry's work i.e. not just sticking to r'n'r, but this one does what it says on the tin.

The openener, an exuberant "Chantilly Lace" from "The Killer Rocks on" album, sets the mood and largely the pace of the album. Several more tracks are present from that source including the closer, Charlie Rich's "Lonely Weekends". It was certainly one of his better ones - in my eyes, a country rock classic. Whilst the music was drenched with strings and girlie choirs, these aspects were well done and didn't detract from Jerry's obvious glee at being set loose on such material.

Among a variety of sources another major one for the set is "The Session" which was recorded in London in 1973 with a host of local luminaries like Clapton, Starr, Albert Lee etc. backing up Jerry. In part this was a recreation of his Sun period rockers and I would warn any incautious buyer that these are not the originals of "What'd I say" and "High School Confidential" - to find such originals (which are indisputably better) get hold of a good collection of his Sun material.

I was going to give this four stars since I feel the London material does reduce the quality a tad, but the presence of a marvellous slow and country inflected "Since I met you baby" plus the killer version of "Me and Bobby McGee" have left me with no other option that to go with the full five. Rock on, Killer!

How this guy has survived in life over the years, given his fast living, remains a mystery. However, this is a must for fans of Rock 'n Roll who wast to trace its roots. Jerry Lee is to Rock 'n Roll what Jack Nicholson is to films - they just love being themselves, warts and all. Fair play!

I've long been a great fan of Jerry Lee Lewis, and this CD contains most of his hits and to me was a must buy.
To me he has been a great act since the 50's, and one of the truly great rockers. A great CD.
