5.0 out of 5 stars Martyn's marvellous music, 14 Jan. 2007

This is my favourite JM album. He manages to makes a very accessible collection of songs without ever going down the "commercial pop road". Every song hits its own target and there is an abundance of nostalgia, love, hope and gentle reflection within the album. It starts bombastically with "Live on love" great tune with a theme that love can conquer all..."look at the girl" is the album highlight with beautiful reminder of how children grow up so fast. "Income town" is a live number against a loud and appreciative background...check out the brilliant guitar solo!...the album continues like that and finishes, appropriately, with a cover of "Patterns in the rain". As all the songs are consistently good it receives a 5 star rating...

5.0 out of 5 stars A john Martin classic, 25 Feb. 2014

I saw John perform many of the tracks from this album in Cambridge and it was a great experience. From the louch delivery of 'the River' to the uptempo and racous 'Income Town' it touches all the bases. We also get great versions of 'Deny This Love' and 'Patterns in The Rain'. After Solid Air this is my favourite by John , may he Rest in Peace. An underatted classic.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some nice songs here for a later John Martyn album, 9 Aug. 2009

This album contains a couple of John's very best songs in Send me one line, and The Moment. There are also some very good songs to back them up. Not for you if you buy into the commonly held misbelief that John's last great album was Solid Air(only contains three at the most of his best songs in my opinion) but well worth exploring if you are more open minded.
