You probably all know about the musical content of Bitches Brew. Is it Miles' best album? Probably not, but it's certainly up there fighting it out with Kind Of Blue. Bitches Brew is crazy, a melting pot of ideas, styles and musicians that burbles like New York streets... OK, so it's intense, complex, arguably difficult to listen to at times, but when you hear Spanish Key, or Miles Runs The Voodoo Down (the most incredible piece he ever did? Maybe), it doesn't matter, because this music is just so incredible, so awesome... The only word really, is sublime. 8 and a half minutes or so into Miles Runs The Voodoo Down, when the whole band are off somewhere in sonic space, and then they catch the melody line again, and just roll it back in together exquisitely, before Miles sets off an another gorgeous solo... The Complete Bitches Brew Sessions Box Set gives the full context to the album, extensive notes and previously unreleased material making up the restb of the package outside of the actual album itself. Perhaps too encompassing and scarily big for casual fans, nevertheless this is a revelatory must for serious Miles afficionados.
