5.0 out of 5 stars Sparkling Survey of Weber Overtures, 2 April 2011

This review is from: Weber: Invitation to Dance (Audio CD)
It might not be much mentioned in any roll-call of the Top 50 or Top 100 Karajan recordings, but this album of overtures by Carl Maria Von Weber, not forgetting the ever popular Invitation To The Dance, is entirely splendid. It goes to show there was much more to him than Der Freischutz and, if Euryanthe or Oberon aren't often done by opera houses outside Germany, their overtures deserve pride of place in any metropolitan orchestra's season.

Superb sound and a characteristic blend of brains and brawn from the Berliners. You can hear why Wagner loved him so much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Weber Invitation to the Dance, 9 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Weber: Invitation to Dance (Audio CD)
Carl Maria von Weber is in my opinion vastly under-rated in classical music. He should be played more often. He is called the father of German Romantis music. Highly recommended
