5.0 out of 5 stars If you buy one Cd this year................................., 4 Sept. 2000

This review is from: Look Forward to Failure (Audio CD)
I first heard that ataris when i brought the album "Short Music for shirt people" on the Fat Wreck Chords label. The ataris happened to be on the cd, and the melodic punk tunes won me over instantly. The lyrics this band use a deep and meaningful and the tunes blend well with them. The riffs are very catchy and will have you humming for a long time to come. If you like bands such as "The Vandals" and "Nofx", then why nto give this a try? It may be less hard-core but still mantains an overall happy atmosphere that is uplifting. I recommend this album completley. And whilst your here, buy the others as well! They are all worthwhile and a good addition to any punk fans collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars An EP to be proud of, 29 April 2005
This review is from: Look Forward to Failure (Audio CD)
Whilst at uni some years ago, I went through a 'completist stage' and, upon hearing 'San Dimas...' on a compilation, bought their back catalog, which at the time consisted of this EP, plus a Split (with Useless Id) and 2 albums.
For me this EP stood head and shoulders above the other Ataris discs, not least for the stunning "Between You and Me", by far the strongest track they ever wrote and worth buying this EP for alone.
Since then 'End is Forever' and 'So Long Astoria' albums have been released - both of which are worth checking out - and whilst they show the improvement in the band's songwriting, playing and experience, "Look Forward to Failure" still remains their finest offering after half a decade.
Ask me to pinpoint exactly why "...Failure" is the Ataris at their best and i don't think i'd be able to. Whilst not wanting in any way to suggest they play a limited formula, there's possibly something about their style which is more suited to an EP than a full-length. So go buy! This is a risk free and I suggest compulsory purchase for any Ataris fan!
