I agree with (what seems to be the general opinion) the judgment that the first half of this two-fer, Muddy's electrical tribute to Big Bill Broonzy is superior to the second half, acoustic album "Folk singer". But, both albums are great; the first half more energetic and tough, the second more contemplative and brooding...

Muddy, a seminal singer and guitar player is backed by Otis Spann (p), James Cotton (harp), Pat Hare (g) on "Sings 'Big Bill'" and by Buddy Guy (g), Willie Dixon (b) and Clifton James (dm) on the second album, a very fine blues company to say the least; the first album (first 10 tracks of the CD) are recorded in 1959, the second in 1964... Needless to say, Muddy is at the top of the game and, speaking as a jazz fan who likes the blues, I actually like the fact the most famous Muddy's hits are not included here. Waters is an artist one should study thoroughly.
