It makes me laugh that self-proclaimed Metallica die-hards couldn't accept this different sound from the band. They wouldn't even agree that it was even a decent album and instead declare that it's utter rubbish just because it's different. Personally this is my favourite Metallica album and that doesn't mean I don't like the ones that came before it - all previous albums were brilliant or in the case of Justice, not bad. The Black Album is a masterpiece in its own right and still one of my favourite albums of all time 15 years after I first listened to it. I genuinely feel this is one of the all-time great rock albums and it still sends a shiver down the spine when played at geat volume - and I feel I must add as to not offend the masses who refused to admit to liking this - as do the first 3 albums!

You look at all the Heavy Metal greats... Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Black Label Society, AC/DC, Megadeth ect, they've all made a lot of great albums in their career, Sabbath had their Paranoid, AC/DC had their Back In Black, and still, they don't come close to The Black Album.
Why? Because this album covers every sort of Heavy Metal. For instance lets start with the opening track. Enter Sandman is a classic, everyone knows that song, in order for an album to be sucessful, there needs to be one song that everyone recognizes. Sad But True covers Trash Metal, though it's not as fast as other trash Metal songs they've done, it's still genius. Holier Than Thou is more Garage Metal, very 90s. It covers angst, and has a killer bass and guitar riff to go with it. The Unforgiven is a mixture of Classic Rock and Epic Metal , though it's soft at heart, it has it's rock moments, it is also the best song on the album. Wherever I May Roam is Epic Metal at its best, Epic verse, chorus solo, riff... a classic. Don't Tread On Me is Classic Metal, a high octave riff and great vocals about war. Through The Never is basic Heavy Metal, using classic Heavy Metal tactics like Chorus vocals that are sung in unision with the drum beat. There comes a time in every Heavy Metal band's career where they bring out a "Classical Metal Balled", Nothing Else Matters is one of the best, combining vocals about unity and believing in yourself, and beautiful guitar, bass, drums and solos. Of Wolf & Man is bestly described "Mediveal Metal", if you look at any Heavy Metal Band in the 80s - early 90s, they've proberbly written a few songs about abnormal creatures, monsters, exicutions, ect, this is one of Metallica's, a mistey riff and imaginitive vocals. The God That Failed is a story of a man down in the dumps, every Heavy Metal band has one. My Friend Of Misery is about a man who takes all the world's problems on all at once, because he'd feel bad otherwise, some bands write song like this about a friend they had that was depressed or killed themselves. Struggle within is like the previous track, except that it's James describing how he feels
THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM EVER
YOU MUST BUY IT!!!!!!!!
