5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect pop from the Prefabs, 10 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Steve Mcqueen (Audio CD)
This is undoubtedly one of the great albums of the 1980's from the most under-rated songwriter of the last 20 years. Paddy McAloon's lyrics are pure poetry and his music is pure genius. 'When love breaks down' was the big hit from the album but many of the other tracks reach the same high standard. If you like this one, try their first album - Swoon and 'Jordan the comeback' which, in my opinion, even surpasses Steve McQueen.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREATEST ALBUM EVER, 26 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Steve Mcqueen (Audio CD)
I'm a huge fan of music from Jazz to Rock n'Roll to Pop... In my collection I've got around 520 cd's and, in my sincere opinion, I think that "Steve McQueen" it's the best record EVER (better than other masterpieces such as "Revolver" or "Pet Sounds"). Here you'll find top artistic lyrics, pure poetry, superb vocals, beautiful atmosphere... But, don't think you'll love this record all the way it should be loved, the first time you'll hear it. This "thing" will grow on you like passion, like beauty, like a love feeling. It will be part of your life, like those beautiful things you love day-by-day during your lifetime... Don't miss this!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best albums of the 80s, 5 Oct 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Steve Mcqueen (Audio CD)
Perhaps that's damning with faint praise. This band's precocious first album Swoon still blows me away, but for pure pop perfection look no further than this. I have never really liked the first song, which tries to be a bit rocky, but from then on in, every track is blinding. Arguably over-produced by Thomas Dolby, with much shimmery synth work, the songs are so good it doesn't matter: highlights are Blueberry Pies, Desire As and Bonny. This band has been the soundtrack to my life and I must have heard these songs a hundred thousand times but I still find something new in every listen. Cynical, jaded, sweet, sensitive, incredibly well-structured songs with Marvin Gaye, Cole Porter, Gerswhin, Sondheim and Steely Dan the most recognisable influences. Ignore the band's daft name - this is seriously good stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant pop music of the 80's, 2 Jan 2014
This review is from: Steve Mcqueen (Audio CD)
This CD is one of the hidden gems of the 80s. Prefab were never huge like Madness or Duran but this CD is one of those that still sounds good in any era. Desire As should have been a single and has a great opening line. ''Ive got six things on my mind, you're no longer one of them.' Awesome.
