5.0 out of 5 stars Sex, drugs and rock n roll!!!, 26 July 2006

This review is from: Mechanical Animals (Audio CD)
Marilyn manson said that the albums Antichrist superstar, Mechanical animals and Holywood were a story back to front meaning Holywood is the first. Holywood basically being a typical rock album with great tracks and meaning the title Manson wanting to make it Hollywood. The second album Mechanical animals is Manson being the rockstar and being the celebrity and living the sex, drugs rock n roll lifestyle especially the drugs example songs such as the 'the dope show','i dont like the drugs(but the drugs like me) and Coma white. This whole album is Manson singing about the fame and being a celebrity(New model no 15). This album is very different from Antichrist superstar musically and lyrically that being basically and full on heavy metal album and straight to the point lyrics. Here we find the band writing melodies and even bringing the acoustic guitars and doing ballads 'the speed of pain' and it all works great. The guitar is defiantly and improvment using it at the write times 'the dope show' is a great example of this delaying the guitar until the chorus then on the last chorus bringing lead guitar fills over the top it works brilliantly. A very melodic album and manson seems to deliver his words better giving better vocal hooks and his singing suiting the music better. People rarely talk about this album most people dont mention it at all as you can tell by the amount of reviews written on it, people seem to think Antichrist superstar is his best but i personally think this is his best work. Its comes to the bands time were they need a musical change in direction, a point which all bands come to and dont always pull it off and this is Mansons and its there finest hour!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars mansons best album, 4 Nov 2007

This is easily marilyn mansons best album. The raucous antichrist superstar hinted at times towards the more glam/ melodic direction that manson would take on mechanical animals, but these melodies were all to sparse for my tastes. It is true that antichrist superstar is a good album with songs like beautiful people and 1999 the standout tracks, but on mechanical animals i think the music world really heard the evolution of an artist. Its like grown up heavy goth/glam rock.

all the good parts from antichrist remain, but the "filler" is gone replaced with simply excellent songs. The initial standouts on this album are, "rock is dead", "dope show", "Coma white", but after a few listens songs like the acoustic "speed of pain" the glam rock "new model" and funky " id ont like the drugs" can easily be held in the same regard.

I just think that it was sad that manson fans saw this as an unwanted departure from antichrist, when in truth it really is the man at his creative, melodic best. If this album was by radiohead or someone else it would easily be in the top 20 albums ever. no joke.

BUY this album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mansons best album, 6 July 2007
This review is from: Mechanical Animals (Audio CD)
This album is stunning. It's a perfect mix of glam rock, goth and industrial. The songs are probably the most complex of mansons career whilst also being some of the most melodic. Mansons backing band are also on top form offering great guitar parts and dark synthesiser sounds with no drop in quality from one song to the next.

the only downside to this album is how bad he rips off david bowie but when it sounds this good i'm not bothered

5.0 out of 5 stars Landmark album, 6 Oct 2005

From the growling depths came a fantastic album, that suprised me somewhat! I was expecting a gothic howl of self misery.. but when i listened to this I was overwhelmed with what I can only describe as audio sensory trip!
Made me think of Bowie at his best -mad -glam -rock mixed with dark moody goth rock and clever lyrics!
This is definatly one for any music fans collection.
