This review is from: Dvorak: Works for String Quartet - Cypresses, Movement in F, Two Waltzes, Gavotte (Audio CD)
Dvorak's orchestral works may be better known than his chamber music, but his stamp is on both genres, and you will not be disappointed at this collection of short pieces based on Czech, or at least middle European, folk tunes and songs.
Very inventive, intimate and listenable stuff. The Vlach quartet are the obvious choice for an authentic sounding performance, and they work together so incredibly well.
Recording quality is of a very high standard; personally would have preferred slightly longer reverb time, but it's swings and roundabouts with microphone positioning.
If the thought of chamber music puts you off in itself, then this might be a good place to start what could be a very rewarding musical and even spiritual journey.
