5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing debut from the Christians.,
This review is from: The Christians (Audio CD)I heard The Christians during my first visit to the U.K. in 1988. I was blown away by this great song I kept hearing..
The song was "Ideal world". I bought the vinyl on the spot. I can tell the rest of the (now) cd is incredible. It's difficult to pinpoint their style. I guess we could call it modern pop-soul. No matter, music like is hard to find these days. This cd does not sound dated at all. Henry Preistman's soft voice and Russell Christian's sweet guitar souds should have you hooked right from the first song "Forgotten Town". Most songs deal with real topics while looking at the bright side of life. Best known (at least in North America) for two later hits "Words" and "The Bottle", this debut is their best! Very uplifting music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic smooth 80s!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Christians (Audio CD)This is one of those classic albums that ages well. If you were around when it was released, buying this will give you a nice rosy glow of nostalgia and the thrill of re-discovering an old friend. If you're buying this on a whim, then it's an excellent album - far better than their later efforts like "Harvest For the World", "Words", and "Perfect Moment". Each track rolls perfectly into the next rising and dipping as a good album should. Buy, crack out the wine (or preffered tipple) and enjoy a chilled moment :-)

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it then, love it now,
This review is from: The Christians (Audio CD)I have to say that there is about 15 years between hearing it then and now and yet it's aged so well. Both this album and Colour have that something special that can take you back to the place and the time when you heard one track for the first time. I love it, but I'm not a music critic!

4.0 out of 5 stars REALLY GOOD,

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Album,
This review is from: The Christians (Audio CD)I first bought this album on cassette when it first came out in 1987 and played it so much the cassette wore out. I always intended replacing it on CD, but somehow never got around to it. I forgot all about it until just over a week ago when a song suddenly popped into my head for no apparent reason. That song was "Hooverville". I looked it up on the internet and also found one of my other favourite songs from the 80s, "Ideal World" and suddenly realized how much I'd loved this album and that I hadn't got the CD.
I ordered it right away, and I'm so glad I did. Listening to "Ideal World" as a 16 year old in 1987, I thought of it as a pretty song sung by a man with a great voice. Listening to it today with my 42 year old ears, I realize it's so much more than that. Now that I really listen to, and fully understand the lyrics, it's one of the most beautifully crafted songs I've ever heard. It truly reflects how the world we live in should be, compared with how it actually is. And as for "Hooverville", the song the 16 year old me thought of as a catchy song with a great baseline, I had no idea at the time just how political it was, and it's probably as true today as it was then.
The other songs on this CD are just as well crafted as those two are. Having not heard it in over 20 years, the album is as fresh today as it was then. Listening to it when it arrived today reiterated to me the reason why I played it so much back then, and why it was (and still is) one of the best albums I've ever bought. It's also got me asking myself one question - "WHY ON EARTH DIDN'T I REPLACE IT SOONER??"
5.0 out of 5 stars THe Christians Album,

5.0 out of 5 stars 25 Years young and still brilliant,
This review is from: The Christians (MP3 Download)I compared to the manufactured X Factor pap, these songs are as rich and vibrant today as they were 25 years ago with lyrics the challenge our perceptions of the world around us and our responses to it. highly recommended.
5.0 out of 5 stars Just as good as I remember it,
This review is from: The Christians (MP3 Download)I bought this because I used to have this album when it came out in the late 80s (I'm that old).
The extra tracks make it all worthwhile, and the production quality is excellent. If you've never listened to The Christians before, you must listen to this, it's brilliant.
