Having checked out ELOISE on Youtube, i realised that there was a lot more to Barry Ryan than meets the eye.

i therefore started looking out for an album which was a good represention of Mr Ryan.

I was aware that there might be some remakes floating around so i considered my options carefully.

The Singles album was a great decision. It contains all the original versions, impressive given that many of these were issued on different record labels first time round.

It also includes the hit singles Barry had with his late brother. These are worthwhile listening to in their own right.

Being a person of a certain age, I was pleasantly surprised that i recognised a number of the tracks on the album (and not just the ones on Youtube). These other tracks must have been played on the radio in the late sixties and seventies without becoming hits in Britain.

A great album and not just all about Eloise!!!!!

Barry Ryan is so underrated and the songs by brother Paul are an inspiration. I re-discovered this marvellous artist after 40 years and I feel better for it.

ELOISE- the best pop song ever composed and barry is the only one who
can sing it! Don"t buy the single cd re-recorded version as it is not a patch on the original version!

I really love this CD. Up until the early 1990s I had never heard of Barry Ryan. Well at least I thought I hadn't. The truth was that I knew some of his recordings but just wasn't able to put a name to the familiar tunes. Most notably the brilliant track Eloise appeared on a sixties compilation CD called 25 years of rock and roll for the year 1968. And I finally woke up to realising the name Barry Ryan belonged to Eloise. (track 1) Further I wanted to find out more and learned that despite having a rather short career in the 1960s and early 1970s he was very successful indeed and produced some brilliant pop music.
This CD is a great way to get a good cross section of some of the best recordings and it is a perfect way to become familiar with the great work of both Ryan and his brother Paul.
Ryan and his twin brother were sons of pop singer Marion Ryan who had been successful as a pop star and TV presenter in the 1950s. The twins began recording as early as age 16. The duo rose to fame quickly with singles such as "Don't bring me your heartaches", (track 17) "have pity on the boy" (track 18) and "Missy Missy". (track 22) However Paul found show business too stressful and the act changed so that Ryan was the solo star and Paul wrote songs for him. Their biggest hit was the heavily orchestrated and powerful track "Eloise". Other hits such as "Love is love",(track 2 written by Ryan) "The Hunt",(track 5) "Magical Spiel" (track 6) and "Kitsch" (track 7) followed.
Ryan also was popular in Germany and recorded some songs in German. For example "Die Zeit macht nur vor dem Teufel Halt" ("Time Only Stops for the Devil").
Paul and Ryan were in the public eye for a brief period in the 1960s and often appeared in public including TV appearances as guests on many shows.
However Ryan stopped performing in the early 1970s. He did make a comeback in the 1990s but is best known for those recordings from the 1960s and 1970s.

There are 24 songs in total on this wonderful compilation. Eloise may be the most familiar track but the others are truly great. Many people may not think they are familiar with the name Barry Ryan. And it is true that he has been largely forgotten about or over looked by mainstream pop. But this he does deserve more attention and it is fortunate that these classic recordings are preserved on this great CD.

Been looking for a Barry Ryan CD for years purely so I could have the Eloise track! This is a superb album for anyone who remembers the Ryan twins first time around in the 60's. The unmistakable, immediately recognisable voice of Barry Ryan still sends shivers down my spine after all these years. A must have item for all lovers of 60's music.

To be honest..... I only bought this album for Barry Ryan's main hit, Eloise. I am however getting to like listening to the others by him and brother Paul. Four stars for this one.

From the incomparable Eloise to the duets of the 60s with his brother Paul. The CD conrains much from the early 70s with glam rock influence.. My personal Fave is Can't let you go why it wasn't a bigger hit in the uk I have never athomed
