5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Deluxe Editions ever!
Universal Music have released many 2-CD sets(by many artists) in their "Deluxe Edition" series, and I have most of them in my collection, but none are more impressive than this set, which gives you the original 1967 stereo & mono mixes of "The Who Sell Out", plus a nearly vault-clearing excavation of 27 bonus tracks.

No matter which mix of the album you prefer,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Never understood all the fuss
A useful yardstick with which to measure a record's quality is to compare it's lesser tracks with it's grandstanders. On 'The Who Sell Out' the finest and most original song is, unequivocally, 'I Can See For Miles' and it is in contrast to this monumental track that the rest of the album's merit stands in stark relief - it quite simply overshadows everything else on the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable but unremarkable., 16 Aug 2010
This review is from: The Who Sell Out (Audio CD)
The concept of this album is that you're listening to the radio, so the songs are interspersed with comedy adverts. This is an idea that works but it's a shame that the songs (while by no means terrible) just aren't that strong. 'I Can See For Miles' is the only one that would be essential for a Who greatest hits compilation. With all the bonus tracks you do get a lot for your money but there's much better to be found on 'Tommy' or 'Who's Next' so I'd go for those first.

This review is from: The Who Sell Out (Audio CD)
I don't like this album. The queasy, psychedelic pop within is not my cup of tea at all. I was expecting some raunchy, maximum R&B, but the only track that delivers is 'I Can See For Miles'. The jingles are quite funny and i like the concept, but there is no substance here. I saw The Who live this time last year, they were brilliant. But non of their recordings live up to their stage presence (it also came as no surprise to me that non of the material on this album was played). I think that The Beatles, Stones, Kinks and Small Faces all live up to the hype, where as The Who's recordings have aged terribly and seem dated, stagnant and quite frankly exceedingly boring. Of course there's the odd gem, but that's what greatest hits are for. You'd be hard pressed to whittle The Beatles back catalog down to an album that would accurately display their brilliance. It would be very easy to do that with The Who.
