Boogaloo Joe Jones is one of the best of the late 60s-early 70s jazz-funk guitarists. He only released a few albums (he is purportedly either fixing gaming machines or is a preacher now), and recorded a mix of fast funky shuffles, slow blues, and instrumental covers of soul classics. Black Whip and Snake Rhythym Rock are two of the best albums of the 'fast funky' stuff. Superb backing musicians, and a cool style keeps this album rocking till the end

I first came across Boogaloo Joe on the Luv 'n' Haight compilation Jazz Dance Classics volume 2,
And was instanly impressed!
I decided to look for more albums by him and came across this double compilation.
I was not disappointed!
Jones is very much at home with jazz that has a twist of funk, but also has very soulful blues edge too!(Big Bad Midnight roller)
He also has a softer, mellower side. Check out Maccoll's The first time I ever saw her face, it's sublime!

If you like 70's dance jazz that is not afraid of the blues, this is for you!Jazz Dance Classics, Vol. 2

Superbly underrated guitarist, that needs to be heard
more often. Quality release from BGP.
Well worth buying for 'Black Whip' alone.
