3.0 out of 5 stars Decent
Winter '97 - Speed garage, speed garage and other stuff. I'm not really into speed garage.

This kicks off a little like the (far superior) Summer '97 comp with an impossibly cool track David Holmes - Gritty shaker (of Ocean's 11 - no, not the original - fame) after that there's a deep dish track that's ok and then we're into the garage. Ok - I was scepticle...

Ok - I was scepticle before listening to this because of all the speed garage, it's not for everyone but even if it's not, you're still going to like the odd track.

Too be honest alot of these tracks are like sped up R&B tracks rather than bassline smashers but I will say this, it's fun, it's female friendly and definately has its moments.

Unquestionably for me though, CD1's best tracks here are the (too few) house tracks. David Morales's mix of Belo Horizonti is lethal.

Towards the end of CD1 it gets really speed garagy in the traditional sense (i.e. loads of bass and not much else), a bit too much for me at this stage.

Onto CD2 which starts off with more speed garage (?) before a few really good trance songs. You get 8 minutes and 34 seconds of Beachball by Nalin & Kane (thank you mr tong), 9 minutes 16 seconds of Come Down (remix) by Graham Park which, if you can tune out the daft vocals (real Castles in the Sky stuff here), is a serious track. You then get 7 minutes 49 seconds of Sunchyme by Dario G which even your granny will love.

So we're going well at this stage and then....

Stay by Sash, seriously? if you were born after 1988 and don't know what song I'm talking about, facetube it. It's hilariosly bad.

What follows is a bit more trance and then some smooth drum and bass, but unless you skip the Sash track you're not going to hear it due to being physically numb from laughing at how terrible that song is.

If I could give this 3.5 stars I would, one bad track does not a bad comp make but it really is an elephant in the room.
