The Ohio Players made their name with extreme album covers which always featured a semi naked woman. That got them noticed but it was the music that kept them popular in the mid 70's.

I used to have all the Ohio Players stuff on vinyl but over the years they have all been lost.
Listening to the music again brings back good memories and makes you realise just what great music the Ohio Players made.
Absolutely love it

As I've said before about the Players (see my reviews), they are all about sex. But this doesn't make them sleazy. They quite genuinely and successfully pooooour sex into the funkiest music ever. The result is the firiest funk and the blissfullest ballads. Check out the 'Skin Tight' and 'Fire' albums.
'Honey' takes it even further, if that's possible. By now, Billy Beck has replaced Junie Morrison as the person whose voice makes EVERYBODY turn to jelly and, with the addition of some macho stuff from Satch Satchell, the scene is set for some seeeeriously sticky stuff.
'Honey' is a truly beautiful jazz-funk album from the pimpest band ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy 70s Funk, 21 Aug 2011

I originally bought this album on vinyl in the 70s. Still a classic funk album. The stand out tracks are Sweet Sticky Thing and Love Rollercoaster. Possibly their best album and it has improved with age. Some of the other five tracks that I once found a little strange seem more accessible now.

The Ohio Players made their name with extreme album covers which always featured a semi naked woman. That got them noticed but it was the music that kept them popular in the mid 70's.

"Honey" undoubtedly has the Funk, and tracks like Love Rollercoaster will be familiar to most. It also proves the existence of the Funk Ballad, as the Players get back to their roots (they were originally a Soul vocal harmony group) with some inspired wailing on the title track and "Alone".

"Sweet Sticky Thing" and "Lets Love" lope along in a mellow groove and these tracks demonstrate that Jazz influenced the Funk.

A fine album, ranking with "Fire" as the Players best album - but buy it and decide for yourself
