5.0 out of 5 stars A unique and wonderful song, 2 Nov 2003

This review is from: The Box (Audio CD)
Made when they were at their peak, just after 'Snivilisation' and just before 'In Sides', 'The Box' is just something else really! It can't be categorised.
Sure it is electronic music, but it's like listening to medieval electronic music, if there were such a thing! This is down to the use of a zither on the songs here. A zither is a long forgotten musical instrument, maybe some of you may recall it as it was used on the soundtrack to the excellent film 'The Third Man' starring Orson Welles. It sounds like a xylophone, but much more mysterious, and less annoying!
When I heard this song for the first time, it really took me away. I hadn't heard anything like it before. I would suggest you try to get hold of this EP. There are four versions of the title track on it, all very different to each other. The last one with vocals! Another version sounds even more medieval than the main album-based track!
The artwork for the CD is very mysterious too. The house on the cover is one of those pieces of art where your mind goes off imagining what it represents or what is in the house itself!

5.0 out of 5 stars beatiful, evocative, organic electronic music, 4 Mar 2001

this is easily the best orbital single so far, and arguably my favourite of all their releases. combining frenetic beats with opaque, cinematic melodies the cd evokes emotions not usually associated with the often euphoric dance scene. progressing in a series of movements, the four tracks work perfectly as a whole mini-album, from tense beginnings moving through a driving climax into the epilogue of the vocal version, this is music to take you an an internal journey. truly genreless and truly original.

15 years later and still the best single I have ever bought! Not the classic single filled with meaningless remixes, but an autonomous project shinning as a whole. A true masterpiece! No matter how much will cost you to get it, this is a sonic treasure!
