I've heard quite a lot of Pino Daniele's stuff over the last few years, and to be honest, most of it is awful. This live offering from 1993 stands the test of time. The songs are thankfully stripped bare of much of the nauseating instrumentation that spoils them in the first place. With Daniele plucking away beautifully at his guitar, Antonio Annono on bass, and Carole Steele on percussion, songs like 'A me me piace o blues' and 'Je so pazzo' are a million miles better than their original versions. The tunes on this album are at turns uplifting, emotional, and subtle. The only tracks to skip are the dismal 'Fatte 'na pizza and 'Sotto 'o Sole (for the dreaded pan pipes at the start!!).
Recorded in the town of Cava, just outside Daniele's home city of Naples, this is a joyous, open air hometown gig.
