4.0 out of 5 stars The tangerine dream songs are amaaazing!
If you watched the movie Risky Business and liked it - it probably has something to do with the moody background music that was played during intense moments in the movie.
Intense music for an intense movie. And for me, this was Tom Cruise at his best. Young, energetic, wild and crazy, yet still deep.

Not so much a dedicated soundtrack album as an ill-matched assortment of track extract/excerpts thrown together at the film director's esoteric whim....three of the TsDream tracks are previously released snippets, so nothing new there, and the rest aren't the kind the songs you'd yet out on their own. They have nothing in common with each other except that for some...

For me, this movie was really deep. And I was only 15 when i saw it. The music was deep and emotional. For me, it is tangerine dream at its best. If you want music that makes you think, or concentrate then get this album just for the tangerine dream songs. This soundtrack is the only place you will find them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting soundtrack, 30 Sep 2010

I have to admit that I haven't seen the film; I bought this because of the Tangerine Dream content, being a bit of a TD anorak. When I saw the listing (TD / Bob Seger / Prince (!) / Jeff Beck (!!) / Muddy Waters (!!!) I had second thoughts, but at £3.69 it was a good gamble.

There are clearly parts of the film that will be particularly suited to the blues songs - and only them - whereas Tangerine Dream look to be providing a "structure" for building the rest of the soundtrack on.

It should be remembered that TD music is NOT "ambient" (for playing away in the background while the real action happens elsewhere). After all, a film ("Sorcerer" or "Thief" - can't remember now) was once made AFTER their soundtrack for it had been composed, and William Friedkin, director of "Sorcerer" has said that if he had known of TD earlier, he would have asked them to score "The Exorcist".

So, all in all, a very satisfying soundtrack mix.

For years I intended to replace my original vinyl copy of this soundtrack with CD and have only now got round to it. This is a fantastic soundtrack album, with all the very best bits from the original film and incredibly haunting compositions from Tangerine Dream. Brilliant buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Risky Business, 30 May 2012

This is a great soundtrack to what is still a really good enjoyable film. Whilst the tracks by Journey, Prince etc are fine although understandably a bit dated, it's the tracks by Tangerine Dream that matter and these are real highlights from that bands entire catalogue. The Tangerine Dream tracks especially work great as chill-out style background music or perfect when driving.
The only issue is the sound on the CD is very quiet compared to modern CD's, understandable when the album is 30 years old, but shouldn't deter you from enjoying this album.

They have nothing in common with each other except that for some reason the director chose them to musically illustrate his film. Could have chosen any number of different songs....zzzz
