4.0 out of 5 stars Oh, No! It's Devo
If you've not encountered DEVO before, shame on you! But unless you spent time in the 1980s, it's probably not your fault. This collection contains two of Devo's essential releases, "Freedom Of Choice" (1980) and "Oh, No! It's Devo" (1982), though somewhat irritatingly, these releases are not coupled chronologically, but this is a moot point. "Oh, No! It's Devo" features...

3.0 out of 5 stars good/not so good
2 albums, Freedom of Choice - one of the best and Oh No Its Devo, which almost sums it up, as this is not one of the bands finest moments.

But some really quirky, catchy pop from a really underrated band

This collection contains two of Devo's essential releases, "Freedom Of Choice" (1980) and "Oh, No! It's Devo" features Devo after they had shifted from a guitar-based New Wave / Post-Punk sound prevalent in "Freedom Of Choice" into a fun, cynical cartoon synth-based band, all the songs are short, catchy, brilliant, and perhaps most importantly, entertaining. It's got "Whip It" so that's all you need to know, really!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great music but..., 8 Sep 2008

This review is from: Oh, No! It's Devo/Freedom Of Choice (Audio CD)
This disc comprises of Devos 3rd and 5th release on one disc with a few (i think) single only tracks.

This cd is the worst of this set from Virgin Records, it has one great album (Freedom of Choice) and one okay but not vital release (Oh No).

The packaging is just plain bad, it has none of the charisma of the original releases and on a few songs even spells tracks wrong!

If you get all 3 of these releases you get 6 albums, and thats great for the price, but if you can, get either the original vinyls or more devo-ted re-releases. This simply feels like a way for Virgin to cash in on them which is sad.

Freedom of Choice is their most famous release (along side the debut) but in my opinion it is Duty Now For The Future which is the best release.

I almost gave this 3 out of 5 as this simply the worst of the 3 releases, but, Freedom of Choice is still very much worth listening to.

Worth getting for the music alone, but the packaging is worth only one star out of five.

I didn't get how great 'Oh No it's Devo' is - but now I do. Whether Peek-a-boo was about the NSA is a moot point, it is now. I was at the recent(ish) concert at Shepherds Bush Empire - and was amazed to see that there were teenage girls dancing to Gates of Steel at the front - and they knew all the words.
