This review is from: Matador/Inta Somethin' (Audio CD)
This excellent reissue combines two albums featuring the compatible pair of trumpeter Kenny Dorham and alto saxophonist Jackie McLean.
'Matador'(tracks 1-6) was originally issued on UNITED ARTISTS and recorded in New York City on April 15, 1962 with a rhythm section of pianist Bobby Timmons, bassist Teddy Smith and drummer J.C.Moses. 'Inta Somethin''(tracks 7-12) was originally issued on PACIFIC JAZZ and recorded live at The Jazz Workshop in San Francisco in November, 1961 with pianist Walter Bishop, bassist Leroy Vinnegar and drummer Art Taylor.
Highlights of the twelve tracks include McLean's 'Melanie', Dorham's 'El Matador' and impressive versions of the standards 'Smile', 'Beautiful Love', 'It Could Happen To You' & 'Lover Man'.
This overlooked BLUE NOTE CD contains 77-minutes of inventive hard bop and is a must for all fans of Kenny Dorham or Jackie McLean.
