I am still quite new to jazz music although thanks to Amazon I am getting a collection together. I bought this Antonio Carlos Jobim CD on a whim. Its absolutely fabulous.

Its a smooth collection of latin beats witha jazz blend. Kind of 2am in a smokey bar music[ cool and sophisticated. You could almost expect Bogart to appear on the scene. If you want something decent to listen to, buy a copy of this CD. You will never be disappointed.

This CD has been around for some years. But it's a gem, and I recommend snapping it up while it's still available. Guitarist, pianist and sometimes vocalist Antonio Carlos "Tom" Jobim, born in Rio Janeiro, was at the heart of the bossa nova craze. As music director for Odeon Records, in 1958 he had persuaded the company to record Joao Gilberto performing one of his compositions, Chega de Saudade (No More Blues). This became a surprise hit and led to Gilberto recording a whole album of Jobim's compositions, which led to the bossa nova craze in Brazil, which in turn spread to the USA in 1962. Desafinado, which was a huge hit for Stan Getz ad Charlie Byrd, was another of Jobim's compositions, as was his Corcovado which, with English lyrics provided by Gene Lees, became Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars. Both appear on this 16-track survey of Jobim's work between 1963 and 1987, in a range of different company and settings. Stan Getz, Joao Gilberto and Astrud Gilberto are just three of those keeping him company here. A terrific album that should leave you wanting to hear more.

a mellow cool-ection of Jobim's finest latin recordings. Beautifully phrased and sung in a laid back style. A must for all fans of latin music!
