4.0 out of 5 stars Requiescat in pace
The most gentle performance out there. That might be either a good or bad thing, depending on your sensibilities, but Faure's Requiem is meant to be gentle, or so I believe. The final rest. The tranquil death. This recording will dress you in the finest silk and lead you there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Overwrought performance of Requiem
This is a bit overwrought performnace of Faure's Requiem, although the Monteverdi Choir sing it beautifully with genuine emotional involvement. Sir Eliot Gartdiner paces it too slow throughout and explains the music bar by bar (I call it "British conductors' syndrome") rather than letting the music speak for itself. The sublimity of the music is lost along the way in too...

The sublimity of the music is lost along the way in too much deliberations.

The fillers, on the other hand, are splendid. Saint-Saens' rarely performed choral gems and Debussy & Ravel's choral works are very original and captivating.
