4.0 out of 5 stars Contains one of Slaters best ever tracks..., 18 Dec. 2007

This is a patchy album in truth, but the single from it, 'Love' is one of the best techno tracks Slater's ever created, it's simply immense... The album is worth the price for that track alone, especially here as it comes bookended by two moody pieces which set it up perfectly...

Apart from that, all I can say is in contrary to other reviews this is FAR from Luke Slaters debut album!!!

Check out his GPR releases, the mesmeric 'The 4 Cornered Room' and 'My Yellow Wise Rug'. Two of the best IDM albums EVER RELEASED. Get them first, then come back for this...

4.0 out of 5 stars 'Intelligent' but not chin-stroking techno, 27 May 2001
This review is from: Freek Funk (Audio CD)
Slater's debut album is robust-sounding techno, which is surprisingly varied at times, not as 'full-on' as 'Wireless' and mostly suited to home-listening. It is very tense and intense the whole way through, with plenty of bridging tracks being pure white-noise or ambient meandering - both of which sound like they are straight from a superb, chilling sci-fi flick about Government corruption. There aren't enough real stand-out tracks for this to be considered a classic, but on the other hand there are no real duffers here either. The pick of the bunch is 'Love', which is a superb, rushing, tech-house track which provides a brilliant climax to the album. The album has a similar spooky feel to many of DJ Shadow's songs, such as 'What does your Soul look like? Part 2' and 'Stem/Long Stem', without ever quite reaching those same heights. A worhtwhile buy for even a half-hearted techno fan.
