5.0 out of 5 stars Top, top album

The album, aside from the obvious brilliance of 'new pollution' and 'where it's at', is a simply stunning exhibition of Beck's clear genius. Highlights would have to be the opening bars of...

5.0 out of 5 stars Alternativeness at its best., 17 May 2011
This review is from: Odelay (Audio CD)
I can't understand why anyone would give this album a rating under 3 stars, actually even that is too few stars because this is a truly remarkable album. It has got one of the most exciting atmospheres within and is really inspiring. If you are a fan of alternative music this is the most perfect album for you.

this album ios truely the nuts. all of the songs are really catchy and addictive. the album seems to be pieced together like a jigsaw it fits perfectly.

1- devil's haicut 9/10: Nice little tune. catchy and a good start

2- hotwax 9/10: Little bit country, little bit slower but once again a tasty little beat

3- lord only knows 10/10: really country. the sort of song you can hang out with...while you downshiftin' the 18 wheeler!

4- New pollution 10/10: becks most likeable song. an instant hit. i could groove around for hours with this pup!

5- Derelict 10/10: Much slower. but a song that helps make the album so beautiful

6- Novacane 8/10: A bit mental. but very enjoyable

7- Jack-ass 9/10: the most perfectly composed song on the album, a true pop gem

8- where it's at- 10/10: the wonder mic of the album. a total, bloody, mental and genius. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!""""""""""

9- minus 9/10: sweet little short sharp pop tune

10- sissyneck 10/10: Another kentucky classic, but a bit more of a vibe rolling through it

11- 9/10 readymade: another chill out laid back song, but with nice lyrics

5.0 out of 5 stars wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 26 Feb 2002

This review is from: Odelay (Audio CD)
what an LP Beck throws in everthing including the Kitchen sink into this LP 'Devils Haircut@ is a perfect opener and the LP progresses form there nothing is as it seems you'll be listening to a track it seems normal then BANG! it changes a mad 1-string guitar riff, or a harmonica distorted thru a fuzz-box, or craziest of all a robot will join in and start singing along MAD! MAD! MAD! the LP is still highly musical though as the singles show - Jackass, Sissyneck, Devils Haircut, New pollution and Where its at, the singles also the diversity within the LP it trawls thru Country, Heavy Metal, Pop, and the damn right screwed up amongst other genres, if you like your LPs mad but still listenable then buy this.............. do it now!

this LP is the most perfect album ever with classics such as 'Devil's haircut', 'wheres it at',and 'Novocaine' amongst others this album mixes every instrument Beck can find from sitars to keychains to sythesizers he throws the lot and he plays practically all of them the man is a genius the album mixes every style imaginable from rock to acoustic bliss to rap and even to country western at times this album is one like no other buy it you have to what is also amazing is the way Beck will suddenly throw in mad guitar parts or weird synth noises mid song just so there is no set pattern to anything on this masterpiece.

In my mind definitely the best beck album, twisted pop sensibilities mixed with just about everything (from coutry to rap to punk) make Odelay a funny, funky and almost masterful album that everyone should have in their collections.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beckaliscious, 9 Dec 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Odelay (Audio CD)
This album, although slightly dated is still my favourite by Beck. With this being his first big album he has shown us all his musical talent. Tunes like 'New Pollution' are written, performed and directed by the man himself. If I was to sum up BECK in one word there is only one that comes to mind,......TALENT
