2.0 out of 5 stars Minimal Techno... And There's Less To Come!, 8 April 2013

This review is from: M-Series (MP3 Download)
M-Series is a successful minimal techno album by a seminal artist of the genre.

What's ground breaking for the minimalists can just be annoying to the rest of us. The album starts off really well, with rich panoramic dub. The bass floor is immediately wonderful, echo-laden and superbly elastic. Later the mid levels, that are supposed to lead, complement, and add variety, instead wreck the album after a few tracks with their noodling racket. This has a good track or two (actually 3, of 9) which is typical for Basic Channel and it's labels, founders/soloists/duos/etc.

M-Series is only good enough to hint at the possibility that one day minimal techno might be more than just "bachelor pad music" or "unobtrusive background music" for certain gatherings.

(The full versions on vinyl are better? Well so what? In 2013, they can't put them out on a couple of cd's for a tenner?).

M-Series. You're a near-miss, and near-misses are worse than a crash!
