This review is from: Rough Power [VINYL] (Vinyl)
I always thought the Bowie version was neutered and lurking beyond it was a beast waiting to pounce. So I am one of those who think the remastered version has finally allowed the animal within to take a stroll. This however is bootleg copy value of that devastating album captured by a DJ fan - way back on a primitive machine. These recordings, ironically grooved within on an audiophile record are certainly constrained by certain "audio dynamics." Principally they have been funnelled for radio consumption as some form of live experience. Iggy's voice is way above the mix and the band sound as if they have been locked in a sound cellar, as the Ig prowls above.

Funnily enough the quality reminds me of a taped copy I used to listen to back in the late 70's early 80's. It was a tape of the original album usually sold as "budget" - so for me it has a memory cache. This however ironically, given the equipment of the era, and the quality of those cassette tapes is probably the sound quality I would have heard back then.

Strange to think this had such a huge impact, played it relentlessly before I went out and confronted the world on a Friday/Saturday night.

What I learnt during this era is the attitude you hold and project is the one that is eventually refracted. Madness was enshrined within the mind-set/ I don't know how Iggy survived so long!

Still has those stand up hair on the back of the neck moments when young men snorted cortisol and spat out testosterone just because they could.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good addition for die hard fans, 3 July 2001

This review is from: Rough Power (Audio CD)
Rough Power is an interesting collection of early stooges music, most of it being introduced by a radio DJ. The recordings are slightly fuzzy, but that adds a certain romance to the album. This isn't for someone who doesn't own 'Raw Power' but gives a good indication of the Stooges pre-mixing ability. Good addition to a near complete 'Iggy and the Stooges' collection.
