5.0 out of 5 stars Downbeat gem liberated by the lab., 17 Jan. 2003

This review is from: Bluebird Recordings - 1941-1942 (Audio CD)
This CD just shimmers with understated beauty.
The restoration job that has been done on these old recordings is beyond belief. The music just glows with warmth and atmosphere bringing you the best slice of Big Maceo and Tampa Red currently available.
The piano drifts up through the decades, set free from any hiss or pop, but retaining a smokey edge. Tampa's slide guitar cuts glassily across it.
A downbeat gem.
I would say that for lovers of real blues music - music of beauty where feeling overrides show-off soloing - this is a must-buy.
Thats my story. Thats all I gotta say to you.
