3.0 out of 5 stars Broadway Forum recording not bad, 10 Mar. 2004
This review is from: A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum: A NEW MUSICAL COMEDY (Audio CD)
This CD is of the original Broadway production of "Forum", with Zero Mostel. To me it felt a little soul-less, but technically it's a good performance. Certainly, however, the comedy is lacking - that sense of "fun" just doesn't come across on the CD.
To a British ear it definitely also has some oddities, with occasional American references.
The Frankie Howerd London production is much better (even if Frankie's singing voice isn't as good as Zero's) - it has great comic expression and immediately brings back memories of "Up Pompeii". Unfortunately, the recording of that production doesn't seem to be available at the moment.
