4.0 out of 5 stars Songs that have become standards
By the time of this, her second album, Joni Mitchell was a buzz name. Fairport Convention and Judy Collins had recorded her songs to great effect, and she had appeared on Dick Cavett's talk show, sold out Carnegie Hall and met Bob Dylan on The Johnny Cash Show. She had a huge stockpile of songs, most of which any songwriter would sell their soul to have written. These...

3.0 out of 5 stars Discordant, tough listen
This is a well known Joni album, but I find it a hard listen. There are a couple of gems including the well known title track, but many of the others are experiments in minor keys, with dissonant harmony and unusual melodies. She is clearly trying to do something strongly artistic in these songs, for me this is not too successful.

A couple of the songs have me...

I used to have this on vinyl and had forgotten what a great piece of work it was. Do give it a try!

Though having bought many Joni Mitchell vinyl albums at the time they came out and CDs since, I had never heard "Clouds" - apart from the "hits" like Chelsea Morning and Both Sides Now. I like virtually everything by Joni (apart from that bizzarre jazz album - and I generally like bizarre jazz)but even I was taken back by the first track, Tin Angel. I cried. The line "Found someone to love today" just sums up life. Except it is so very rare to "find someone to love today" - well, it is for me at least! Despite the quality of many of the other tracks on this album, I hardly ever get passed Tin Angel and usually play it repeatedly. But best not to do this when you're driving otherwise you might well end up an angel yourself, tin or otherwise.

A great album by the best (female) singer songwriter of all time. If you only have 'Blue' this might be the way to expand your Joni collection.

Exactly what is says - a cd version of a fantastic vinyl lp. Cds can't match the atmosphere of vinyl but that's not Joni's fault. Very good way of hearing the music on modern equipment.

3.0 out of 5 stars 'The Saint', 7 Dec 2012

It was just O.K. On this Album I found the voice a bit light, reedy and nasal . On Ladies of the Canyon which I've enjoyed
for many years the voice is confident & soaring and that I would recommend. With Amazon prices you can afford a flutter,
but in this case it was so so.
