4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but could do better
This 1980 live album from Fleetwood Mac comprises some performances recorded five years before and others from the 1979 'Tusk' tour. It is, perhaps, a little eclectic, and will strike more of a chord with the more dedicated fans of the band. Whilst the track listing includes several renowned Mac songs - for instance a powerful rendition of Stevie Nicks' Rhiannon, and...

3.0 out of 5 stars Where's The Chain?
This two-CD compilation of Fleetwood Mac's concerts during the late seventies, early eighties is an interesting, if not entirely successful record. The arrangements are close to the original versions of the songs, but many of them are performed with a lot more energy than the originals. Over My Head and Don't Stop, for example, are both improved on. There are also a...

This 1980 live album from Fleetwood Mac comprises some performances recorded five years before and others from the 1979 'Tusk' tour. It is, perhaps, a little eclectic, and will strike more of a chord with the more dedicated fans of the band. Whilst the track listing includes several renowned Mac songs - for instance a powerful rendition of Stevie Nicks' Rhiannon, and energetic versions of Monday Morning and Say You Love Me - there are some 'new' compositions which range from decent to forgettable. Also, at times it would seem that the choice of recordings was rather odd - on Landslide, Nicks is barely audible, and Christine McVie suffers a similar fate on what starts out as a promising rendition of Over My Head.
Nevertheless, as opposed to 1997's 'The Dance' which was a very polished affair, the listener gets the feeling that this album has really captured the Rumours-lineup at its live, creative, frustrated best. Lindsey Buckingham dazzles as usual with his guitar work, and Nicks and McVie both contribute beautiful vocals on the majority of tracks. All in all, compared to their peers and today's bands, this is a marvellous glimpse into an act which can really entertain and thrives in a live atmosphere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fleetwood Mac Live (1980), 28 Dec. 2003

A brilliant double CD with 4 songs not available on any other recording (Fireflies, Don't Let Me Down Again, One More Night and The Farmer's Daughter.) There are also some different takes on other songs, in particular Oh Well with tremendous guitar work.
The price is more than usual but I have to say it's money well spent for an avid "Mac" fan.

This release is definitely not a 2004 issue so the description on the website is incorrect. If you check on packaging for the "Rumours" compilation re-issue by Fleetwood Mac you will see the difference. But i will keep it as is sold at a cheap price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Where's The Chain?, 10 Dec. 2001

This review is from: Fleetwood Mac Live (Audio CD)
This two-CD compilation of Fleetwood Mac's concerts during the late seventies, early eighties is an interesting, if not entirely successful record. The arrangements are close to the original versions of the songs, but many of them are performed with a lot more energy than the originals. Over My Head and Don't Stop, for example, are both improved on. There are also a number of new songs, which are all strong in their own right. However, some of the versions of the songs could have been better picked. There are better live versions, for example, of Rhiannon than the one that is used here. There are also a number of curious ommissions : The Chain, You Make Loving Fun and Gold Dust Woman are all noticeably absent, and Tusk is probably under-represented. Perhaps it is now time to re-release this album with extra tracks so that you get a more comprehensive view of this group at their peak.

A must for any die hard Fleetwood Mac fan. Enjoy Rumours with a different twist and performed live, when the group were at their best. Brilliant.

3.0 out of 5 stars somewhat different, 10 Mar. 2011
This review is from: Fleetwood Mac Live (Audio CD)
when I first listened I was somewhat disappointed with with album not being as exciting as I expected however it still has a thril factor.

Albeit some tracks of Lindsay's are not my taste..

christine mc vie tracks appear lifeless but good quality.

Some good "new" (to me) tracks ie fireflies and the "oh Well" track

A longtime fan said he was disappointed in some tracks but enthralled with others which just about summed it up for me

Overall a good buy

Saw Fleetwood Mac in October this year in Amsterdam perform. The bandmembers were older, definitely, but all songs were still as powerful and well performed as in the top years of the band.
