As a fan of the great and sorely missed Bill Hicks finding a comedian who is both very funny and very intelligent in the post Hicks era has been difficult. That was until I stumbled onto Carlin. Though undoubtedly not the outsider Hicks was, and remains, Carlin draws on his genius from being a part of the society he loathes and thus being able to distance himself from it to accuse those who follow the consumer herd of selling out their individuality. He is a must for anyone wanting to enlighten themselves and to hear the perspective of a man I believe to be vastly underrated, very much like Hicks was. Let's hope that all us 'consumers' do ourselves the favour of having our deepest flaws pointed out to us in a deeply hilarious, and often thought provoking way. I am fan, you should be too.
