5.0 out of 5 stars Best of the best?
A collection of material from the Texan trio. 3.0 out of 5 stars Best of King's X CD
Rock with a melodious edge - some fine songs.

I'de have given it 4-5 stars, if it had been a bit cheaper.

A collection of material from the Texan trio. With a powerful metal edge, harmonies that would impress any Beatles-friendly listener and an almost symphonic drive to their melodies, King's X find themselves in the unenviable position of being too accessible for rivetheads but, by reputation, too noisy for the easy listener. Worth a purchase even if you have all their previous albums because: 1) All remastered tracks by Ty Tabor 2) 3 new tracks and 3) live version of 'Over my head'.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOME but not all of the classics from legendary influential band, 27 Jun 2009

Well this collection was released well over ten years ago, and was likely a record company contractual thing. Even so, it goes some way to show just some of the very many amazing number of extremely well written classic rock tunes that this hugely influential rock band have produced in nearly twenty five years now.
They have now made and put out at least another six or so more great albums since this 'greatest hits', so really the defiunitive hits album should arrive some time in future, as the band still tour and record new albums very regularly and their very high standard of song writing. There are dozens of really great tunes on this I garuantee, catchy, singalong but heavy and groovy too. Very underrated legendary band who your favourite bands very probably admire.
Check out these amazing guys on record, then live if you can. Stunning.
P.S.-If you already own most of the early albums, as I do, this is still worth getting as many of the tracks were remastered by Ty in the studio.

I originally got into King's X back in 1989 just after they released 'Gretchen goes to Nebraska' - at that time there was quite a bit of excitement about this band. In 'Kerrang' their previous album (Out of Silent Planet) had been voted by the critics as their No 1 album of 1988, while Gretchen Goes to Nebraska came in as the Kerrang critics No 2 album of 1989. It seems hard to believe that some thought this band would go on to become bigger than 'Guns and Roses'! What went wrong? Well I think quite simply whereas G&R make music that almost everybody can 'get' without too much effort King's X music (like for example Rush) takes a lot more patience before you can fully appreciate it. The plain fact is that there really isn't anyone like King's X out there (though the Galactic Cowboys have tried to 'mimic' them) so trying to describe their music is very difficult - The are elements of Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix; The Beatles and even (don't laugh) The Isley Brothers about there sound. Take perhaps their most famous track which here is represented by a stunning Woodstock 94 performance 'Over My Head' this is a mixture of soul and hard/heavy rock which almost no-one does these days. Mr Wilson on the other hand sounds like The Beatles crossed with Sabbath! Does it work? You bet it does - but stick with it - It grows on you honest!
