when I saw the movie, I was reasonably underwhelmed, but the music featured in the film really blew me away. There are some great tracks on here: Siren by Tori Amos is probably one of her best tracks ever definitely up there with, if not surpassing, the likes of Cornflake Girl. Life in Mono by Mono is a breezy, catchy, ambient number that immediately hooks the listener. Sunshower by Chris Cornell is a great, acoustically driven track, up there with anything this man has written in the Soundgarden canon. Like a Friend by Pulp is probably one of the best tunes they have written in many years, a substantial improvement on the material on This is Hardcore. There is some filler on the album, but on the whole, this is a great soundtrack.

An amazing soundtrack that represents perfectly the feelings of the characters and the audience of a brilliant adaptation!
Each song is plainly perfect!
A great addition to your music collection!

While the film itself is superb in terms of the artistic twist it has on the Dickens original, it is almost definitely the music which makes it such as success.
When I saw the film for the first time I was totally captured by the soundtrack throughout and went to get the CD as soon as I could back in 1998. Not only does it feature superb tracks by artists I already loved (Tori Amos, Pulp) but it introduced me to material I completely fell in love with. Duncan Sheik's "Wishful Thinking" and Mono's "Life In Mono" are materpieces which both compliment the mood of the film and demonstrate the artists' potential. Other tracks from Scott Weiland and The Verve Pipe balance out the soundtrack to make sure it doesn't become too sombre, and make the CD an essential listen.
I can't recommend this enough. Even if you haven't seen the film, this is a great artist spotlight compilation. And if you have seen the film then it completes a fully enjoyable experience.
